The biggest award party (in a literal sense) of the year is always at the booze-friendly Golden Globes, selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Somewhat infamous for being a star-studded gala, they've been known to nominate those who are not always worthy. However, this year it looks like they toned it down a bit, snubbing many A-list stars, and instead given out nominations to worthy performers. So a light pat on the back to them for that. Still some surprises here and there, especially Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, a film that I enjoyed, but sure didn't expect to figure into any major awards this year.
